Junior Debating Stars | 小小辯論之星 (Age 9-12)

This dynamic 5-day debate course empowers young minds to develop critical thinking and persuasive English speaking skills. Students will analyse current events and engaging topics from SCMP's award-winning platform, forming the foundation for successful participation in competitions. The course integrates carefully selected SCMP multimedia resources, including interactive news stories, infographics, and youth-focused articles that make complex topics accessible to young learners. 

Students will engage in mock debates using motion topics inspired by SCMP coverage, ranging from environmental conservation to technology in education. These structured practice sessions mirror the format of international debate competitions, helping students build confidence and competence in competitive settings.

Programme Highlights:

• Sharpen Critical Thinking & Analysis: Develop skills to analyse news, distinguish facts from opinions, and extract relevant evidence.
• Master Argumentation & Debate Skills: Learn to build structured arguments using the PEEL (Point, Evidence, Explanation, Link) method, master basic debate formats and speaking protocols, and practice competitive techniques aligned with international standards.
• Boost Confidence & Communication: Gain confidence in English public speaking while learning respectful disagreement and enhancing critical thinking through evaluating diverse perspectives.
• Learn with SCMP’s publications: Teaching materials incorporate SCMP’s publications, connecting classroom learning with real-world issues.
• Mock Debate Competition: Students will engage in mock debate competitions to showcase their skills. 

*Students will receive a certificate issued by SCMP upon course completion. This course is exclusively presented by SCMP Learn and Baker & Bloom.
